Sophie Paris S.A.S. Lipstick in Sexy Cherry

Christmas is upon us. Pretty soon, we'll be swapping our plums and berries for bright red lipsticks in anticipation of the holiday. Although I'm still wearing my other lip colors, I, myself, have been turning to reds as the Christmas countdown ticks down. I just want to share with you one of the red lippies I have in possesion. I have this for almost a year now, I hope you don't mind seeing a pic of a used lipstick. :)

This lipstick is from Sophie Paris, from their S.A.S. (Son Altesse Sophie) line. It is actually discontinued, I can't find it in the latest catalog. Or maybe they're reformulating it, I'm hoping.

Packaging

The packaging is lovely. I'm not sure if you will agree, but I find it elegant. It's so easy for a leopard print to look cheap and cheesy but it is successfully done in this case. The aluminum casing has a bronze semi-matte finish and it feels sturdy in my hands. The print comes in only one color, which is black, and which I believe is what makes it not trashy. This case also doesn't scratch easily and locks nicely.

Bullet

This is one of those kinds of lipsticks that have become popular last year (or was it the other year?) where there is a lip balm inside the lipstick bullet to address the issue of lipsticks that are drying. Sophie Paris calls this balm center as the caring core. It is transparent in color and is pretty moisturizing. The outer core is dubbed the color core and varies from lipstick to lipstick. It is actually a pretty soft formula, easily glides on lips, and I bet even without the caring core, it still wouldn't chap my lips.

It is very soft in fact that it smudges on the inside of the tube. :(  Besides, with use, the 2 cores would smudge with each other anyway. It'll end up looking like a smudged mess one way or the other.

Scent & Flavor

I love the scent of this lipstick. It smells like chocolate. :D This is one reason I felt sad to learn this lipstick has been discontinued. As for the taste, it doesn't have any.

Pigmentation & Swatches

The red is highly pigmented, but since you can't swipe this without swiping the balm with it, the pigmentation is also altered slightly. I could say that the lipstick is a cherry red, but the balm mutes this color down. And as you can see on the hand swatch, it also isn't easy to get an even application. The balm actually disrupts the lipstick in its track.

To get an even application on the lips, I have to run my finger on it. It is also a little difficult to keep a tidy outline of the lips, but I find most red/dark lipsticks do that. A lip pencil would surely make the lines look sharper, but if you don't have them or use them, it's fine too, as this doesn't look too horrible in person.

Verdict

I actually like this lipstick. I am crossing my fingers that they are just reformulating this instead of permanently phasing it out. And if they are just reformulating, I would love it if they just take out the caring core because it isn't helping this lipstick out in my opinion.

So that's it for my review of this red lippie from Sophie Paris. Is there any product you love that have been discontinued too? Do share.

    1. Sad. This line was among the most expensive cosmetics sold by Sophie Paris, I guess that's why they discontinued it. Probably people are opting for the cheaper ones. :/

  3. Just the packaging itself is gorgeous! The colour of the lipstick is beautiful but i guess the care part would make the red less red... It still turns out to be a beautiful colour that should work with many looks. A shame they discontinued it... or maybe you'll be lucky and they are just chaging the formula for better!

  6. It's shade is almost similar to the Ever Bilena I have. I wish I could also try a lipstick with a scent of chocolate, I'm a bit curious about that. And yeah, the packaging is elegant.

    1. I am yet to try Ever Bilena lipsticks. :D It is a bit rare to find chocolate scented lipsticks, but there are many lip balms with that scent, if you wanna try. :D

  7. Similar to the ones I have from Avon. But theirs was the other way around, I mean the red part was in the middle while the outer part was the gloss/jelly. I love the color of it but what was the bad part was that in due time the jelly chaps off.. it crumpled, I don't know why if it is due to the lack of moisture in my bag or it gets dry immediately.

    1. Yeah, I don't think combining the two has been successful so far. Because of the crumbly jelly/gloss, you wouldn't be able to use the lipstick as well.
